Leadership staff additions announced Print E-mail

Miamisburg, Ohio - June 24, 2020:  Miamisburg City Manager Keith Johnson announced today that he has selected Ryan Davis to become the City’s new parks and recreation director effective June 29.

Davis’s appointment represents a homecoming of sorts.  After serving in seasonal positions as a youth, the Miamisburg High School graduate worked full-time for the Parks and Recreation Department from 2008-15 as parks and facilities supervisor, then superintendent.  Since that time, he has served in the City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department as superintendent of administration and special projects.

“We’re very excited to welcome Ryan back to our organization,” Johnson said.  “He was a real asset here during his previous stint and then gained valuable experience with the City of Kettering.  He’s ready for the challenges ahead, and we think he’s the ideal choice to lead our Parks and Recreation Department into the future.”

Davis is a 2007 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a B.S. degree in Education.  He graduated from the National Recreation and Park Association’s Revenue Development and Management School in 2018 and is a certified Parks and Recreation Professional and Aquatic Facility Operator.  He is an active member of the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association.

The Miamisburg Parks and Recreation Department oversees more than 20 public parks and facilities and offers year-round programming and special events.  Davis succeeds former Director Kelsey Whipp, who recently resigned.

Administrator added

Earlier this month, the City of Miamisburg added Anthony Covington to its administrative staff as assistant to the city manager.  That position had been vacant for several years.

Covington is a 2010 graduate of Miamisburg High School who went on to earn a B.S. degree in Economics from the U.S. Naval Academy.  After graduation, he served three tours of duty, rising to the rank of lieutenant.  While based in Norfolk, Virg., he did tours on a destroyer and on an amphibious assault ship.  The last of his tours was with the lone naval unit located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where he was deputy to the director for administration with the Naval Medical Research Center.

“Anthony had a broad range of experience during his career with the navy, and we're very pleased to have him on our City management team," City Manager Keith Johnson said.  “He will initially be involved in a number of assignments, including support for IT management, strategic planning and employee training.
