The Miamisburg Citizens Urban Forestry Advisory Board (CUFAB) will be hosting its first free tree giveaway on Saturday, October 24 from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine. The event will be held at Simms Park, which is located on King Richard Parkway near the intersection with N. Heincke Road.
There are over 100 trees growing at Simms Park. Most trees were originally planted by the board from small saplings over the past four years and have now grown to a height of between one and three feet tall. Varieties available include White Pine, Arborvitae, Sugar Maple, Lilac, Red Oak, Tulip, Dogwood, among others. All trees distributed will be hand dug on site by members of CUFAB. Information on tree selection and planting, as well as updated information on the Emerald ash borer, will also be available at the event.
The Citizens Urban Forestry Advisory Board reports and makes recommendations to the City of Miamisburg regarding the care, preservation and planting of trees on public parks and rights-of-way. In addition, the board is active in field work such as reforesting, conducting tree inventories and promoting citizen interest in the care and preservation of trees and shrubs. For more information regarding CUFAB or the tree giveaway, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 866-4532.
