Mound Facility

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Mound plant, located in Miamisburg, was a defense production facility established in the 1940s. In the post-Cold War climate of the early 1990s, the DOE announced it would de-commission the Mound and vacate the premises after conducting extensive environmental cleanup of the facility before exiting.  The community celebrated the end of that cleanup process in October 2010.

The Mound has long provided valuable jobs and important tax-revenue for the City of Miamisburg, and efforts are now focused solely on developing this former federal government installation into a private business and technology park known as the Mound Business Park.  The Mound Development Corp. (MDC) is an economic development arm of the City responsible for overseeing this conversion.

Fifteen commercial businesses operate at the site.  These tenants are at the forefront of research and development in areas such as emerging energy, alternative and renewable energy technologies, fuel cell technologies, nano materials, advanced manufacturing technologies, materials processing technologies and optoelectronics.  In addition, Montgomery County's Regional Dispatch Center is located there.
