RECREATION AND SPECIAL EVENTS SUPERINTENDENT

The City of Miamisburg, Ohio (pop. 20,000), an historic suburban community in the south Dayton metropolitan region, is accepting applications for the position of Recreation and Special Events Superintendent.  Miamisburg is a progressive and growing community that retains its small-town charm with a historic downtown and mixed housing developments offering a high quality of life and services to its residents.  

Position Overview:

The City of Miamisburg’s Parks and Recreation Department serves approximately 50,000 residents, with a service area that including surrounding Miami Township.  Overseeing and maintaining 20 neighborhood and community parks, a Community Center, an Aquatic Center, skate park, dog park, numerous community recreation programs and events, and one nine-hole golf course that has been part of the community for over 60 years.

The Parks and Recreation Superintendent reports directly to the Parks and Recreation Director and performs a variety of skilled, supervisory and administrative tasks to improve, increase and maintain opportunities for the community to Play, Discover and Grow. This professional position is responsible for planning, developing, monitoring, organizing, evaluating, motivating and leading the Recreation and Special Events Division of the Parks and Recreation Department.  

The Superintendent will lead development, implementation and evaluation of programming, events and recreation facility operations for all ages and abilities. The Superintendent is responsible for research of opportunities, collecting and analyzing data, incorporating public input and evaluation, and ensuring excellent customer service while developing action plans and budgets, directing through supervisory of personnel; and evaluating the effectiveness of accomplishments to implement modifications as necessary.
 
Education & Experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Tourism, Business Management, Urban Affairs, Communications or related field. 
•    A minimum of five years of experience in an administrative role, including supervision of staff in recreation and special events management or a related field.  
•    Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.
•    Experience in Capital and Operating budget development and management.
A combination of education, experience and training may be applied in accordance with the City of Miamisburg policy.  
 
Additional Qualifications:
•    Knowledge of leading a comprehensive recreation and special event division.
•    Operational knowledge of current Microsoft Office Suite software and ability to learn and use recreation software.
•    Strong organizational, interpersonal and conflict management skills. 
•    Effective verbal and written communication skills.
•    Must possess a valid driver’s license.

The chosen candidate will be required to obtain and maintain the following licensures and certifications once hired:
•    Aquatic Facility Operators Certification or Certified Pool Operator Certification
•    CPR/First Aid Certification

PROGRAM & EVENT COORDINATOR - Part-time
(Parks & Recreation Dept.)

The City of Miamisburg is accepting applications for the part-time position of Program and Event Coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department.  Averaging 20 hours per week, this position plans, organizes, schedules, coordinates and implements recreational activities, programs, events, and classes in City parks and facilities.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and evenings. Excellent organizational and customer service skills.  Knowledge of a variety of active and passive games, activities as well as the ability to teach and lead programs in music, crafts, outdoor recreation or other specialties preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

•    High School Diploma or equivalent; and
•    A minimum of one (1) year or season (if temporary or seasonal position) of previous experience in the same or related field; and
•    Obtain CPR/First Aid Certification* within six months of appointment; and
•    Possess a valid Ohio driver’s license*.

OPERATIONS MGR, MOUND GOLF COURSE

The City of Miamisburg, Ohio is accepting applications for the full-time position of Operations Manager for Mound Golf Course Clubhouse in the Parks and Recreation Department.  This individual would manage the daily operations of the Mound Golf Course Clubhouse, including a small pro-shop, cart rentals, food and beverage operations and organizing leagues and outings.  It is a full-time non-exempt position which may include weekday, evenings, and weekends depending upon needs of the City. The position reports to the Operations Supervisor for Recreation Facilities and is responsible for overseeing 10+ seasonal and part-time year-round employees (Operational Leaders)       

This position will plan, implement and evaluate golf play, leagues, programs, events and rentals.  They will be responsible for maintaining budgets, processing payroll, maintaining financial and operational documentation such as invoices, inventory and other key fiscal responsibilities.  Additionally, the Operations Manager is responsible for the overall customer experience at Mound Golf Course.  This role will also assist the Operations Manager of Marketing in the development of various promotions, the evaluation of data research, and creation and implementation of program and marketing strategy.  

Position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Business Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or related field, or equivalent experience; and a minimum of three (3) years progressive management experience; and a minimum of one (1) certification, equivalent training or licensure specific to area of focus.  Candidate must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license; and obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within six months of appointment.  For additional Essential Functions of the position please see complete Position Description.

ASST. MANAGER, MOUND GOLF COURSE - Part-time

The City of Miamisburg is accepting applications for the part-time position of Assistant Manager for Mound Golf Course in the Parks and Recreation Department.  Responsible for assisting in the overall management of the golf course; including supervision of all seasonal staff and volunteers, management and care of clubhouse equipment, cleanliness of areas, concessions and sales desk; and providing excellent customer service. Averages between 10-28 hours per week, depending on season.

Minimum Qualifications:

FACILITY MAINTENANCE II
(Parks and Recreation Dept)

The City of Miamisburg, Ohio is accepting applications for the position of Facility Maintenance II.  This position performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labor in the maintenance of City-owned facilities. This position assists with the custodial, maintenance, improvements and development of facilities within the scope of the Parks and Recreation Department.

Minimum Qualifications
•    High school diploma or equivalent, and
•    Possess one certification related to Parks and Facilities maintenance as determined by the department director or designee such as Aquatic Facility Certification, OSHA 10, or other demonstrated and documented coursework in facilities maintenance or trades (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc.); and
•    Minimum of two years (24 months) experience in parks and facilities maintenance; and
•    Skilled in the operation of Parks & Facilities maintenance equipment; and
•    Possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license*; and

LIGHT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
(Public Works Dept., Wastewater Collections)

The City of Miamisburg, Ohio is accepting applications for the full-time position of Light Equipment Operator in the City’s Wastewater Collections Division of the Public Works Department.  Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled utility maintenance work and operates a variety of light equipment relating to construction, maintenance or repair of water distribution systems, sanitary/storm sewer collection systems and/or roadways construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of the City storm drainage system, water distribution system and roadways. Actively supports and upholds the City’s stated mission and values.  Mandatory member of snow and ice control team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.    High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
2.    One (1) year of experience in the operation of light equipment relating to construction, maintenance or repair of water distribution systems, sanitary/storm sewer collection systems and/or roadways, or equivalent.
3.    Possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License*.
4.    Possess a minimum of a Class B Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)*.  (Must possess a Class A CDL and tanker endorsement within six months of position appointment) *.
5.    Must be able to respond within a reasonable amount of time to emergencies and fulfill physical demands of the position.
6.    Must be able and willing to work extended hours and demonstrate a work history of reliable attendance and overtime response.

Additional requirement for Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Divisions only:
Obtain a minimum of an Ohio EPA Class I Water Supply Operator License*, Water Distribution Operator License*, Wastewater Treatment Operator License*, or Wastewater Collection Operator License* as determined by the Department Director or designee within two (2) years of appointment.

POLICE OFFICER

The City of Miamisburg, Ohio (pop. 20,000) is accepting applications for both entry level and lateral full-time positions of Police Officer.  Applicants must be at least 21 years of age; possess a valid Ohio driver’s license; have no felony record or convictions of a crime of violence and possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred).  The compensation package includes a pay range of $27.69 - $36.80 per hour--depending on qualifications, education and experience--with excellent benefits.  

Entry level applicants (not currently a certified peace officer) must successfully complete a written test and PHQ through National Testing Network, Inc.  To schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select Law Enforcement and sign-up for the Miamisburg Police Department.  Testing must be completed no later than Monday, October 19, 2020.  Successful completion of a physical fitness assessment is also required for non-lateral applicants and will be conducted on Saturday, October 24, 2020.  The time and location for the physical fitness assessment will be provided to those applicants who successfully complete the written test. A physician’s release is required to participate in the fitness assessment.  Upon successful completion of the testing and physical fitness assessment, applicants will be asked to submit a City of Miamisburg application.  

Lateral applicants (see website for minimum requirements) are not required to complete the written test or physical fitness assessment to be considered for employment.  However, they will be required to submit a City application, which is available at the link below. Upon application, they may be required to submit a Personal History Questionnaire to be considered. If selected, prior service will be taken into consideration toward starting pay and leave benefits.
